Breaking news… EastEnders tough geezer Danny Dyer knits in his spare time! No, we wouldn’t have guessed that either.

Danny admitted that between takes when he’s on set he will go to the green room and knit. He’s become so good at it that people are requesting he make things for them (we all know how that feels)!

This got us thinking, there must be other celebs who knit that we never knew about before. It turns out Hollywood is full of avid knitters…

27 Dresses star Katherine Heigl is a huge fan of knitting. So much so that she has her own website called Those Heavenly Days where she blogs about her creations.

Julia Roberts has been knitting for years. While she was filming Larry Crowne in 2011, her co-star Tom Hanks played a prank on her by getting 65 male members of the cast and crew to knit as she came onto the set (they were taught some basic beginner’s stitches). Needless to say the prank worked and she was shocked to find all the men knitting away!

Heartthrob actor Ryan Gosling revealed to GQ Australia that he loves to knit and he was taught in breaks while filming Lars and the Real Girl in 2007. He now finds knitting a great way to relax, he told the magazine: “If I had to design my perfect day, that would be it. And you get something out of it at the end. You get a nice present. For someone who wants an oddly shaped, off-putting scarf.”

Singer Demi Lovato showed off her knitting skills in an Instagram post, where she can be seen making a super chunky scarf on a plane journey. We think it’s great to see young celebs like her influencing young girls to follow in her footsteps.

Everyone’s favourite lady, Meryl Streep, has gushed about how much she adores knitting and how it forms part of her quiet home life away from Hollywood. It has been reported that she even knitted the shawl that she wore in the film Doubt!

Last but not least, Catherine Zeta-Jones uses her spare time on set to get creative, as she was first spotted knitting while on the set of The Mask of Zorro.

One thing’s for sure, every one of these celebrities finds knitting therapeutic and a way to relax while working on a film, so it’s great to see that even big stars take on the humble needles to unwind.
