At last – spring is here and that means that summer can’t be far behind! The days are getting longer, the sun is getting stronger and we’re gradually shedding the layers of clothing that have been keeping us cosy all winter. And now the temperature is rising, it’s time to think about lighter garments. The flattering lacy top in Knit & Stitch Creative issue 30 is a great way to update your wardrobe in time for warmer days ahead.

Made from a double-knit yarn in 100% cotton, the top is knitted in a lacy pattern – ideal for a cooler garment. The top is sleeveless and the back and front are identical so, once you’ve mastered the lace stitch pattern, this isn’t a difficult garment to make. The neck, sleeves and bottom are finished simply with a ribbed edge.

The yarn chosen for this top is white but you could pick another colour – what about a pastel shade of pink or blue, a light apple green or even a hot orange or red? Team it with a strappy vest-top or – if the weather isn’t quite so warm – try it over a long-sleeved T. Wear it with jeans or denim shorts, but if you want a smarter look pair this top with a long pleated skirt and accessorise with chunky bracelets and necklaces.

So if you want to be ready for a long and – hopefully – hot summer, get knitting now!
