May is approaching, it’s getting sunnier by the day and summer is around the corner… While some crafts, such as knitting and crochet, are often more associated with winter, we’re already thinking about bank holidays by the beach and our summer holidays – and we bet some of you are too! Here are a selection of our favourite beach-inspired makes and customising techniques.
For the beach hut
… or the garden shed, or in your home! We love this candy-striped beach hut bunting from Issue 33 (middle image). The bunting is knitted in garter stitch and involves simple colour changes and sewing, before being hung up with kitchen string. We also love these chair pads (far left and right), featured in Issue 23 in CreaCrafts Grisaille in Fog and Impasto in Zircon (look at our shop here!). The fabric knits up to take on the appearance of towelling, which perfect for a chair in the garden or a pull-out chair on the beach.
Get crafty with these handy accessories. Use your crochet hook to make this cotton sunglasses case from Issue 31 (middle image), or try out your sewing skills to add raffia daisies to a straw paper bag with lazy daisy stitch (Issue 16, right image). This sunshine yellow bag from Issue 25 (left image) would also be great for storing things for the beach on a bank holiday – especially picnic food!
Clothes for warm days
We love this combination of lace top (Issue 30), decorated espadrilles (Issue 16) and an embellished straw hat (Issue 12) together. The lace top is knitted in just two pieces and has drop shoulders and deep ribbed bands. It’s a lovely make to wear in the summer months as it starts to get hotter and hotter, and teamed with these other accessories you have a crafty clothes combination.
Have you made any of these items? Let us know on Facebook – @CreaCrafts! We’d love to see all your images.
