At the beginning of a new year it’s always nice to clear out some things you’ve been hoarding for a while and start afresh. We know how hard it can get to keep your craft and knitting items tidy because you get too busy to keep it organised. So, we have put together this list of ways you can start to get it all looking fresh again…
Firstly, empty everything you have onto a table and just pick out things that you haven’t used for years – things you’ve been hoarding. If you don’t want to throw them away maybe give them to someone or to charity. But this is the first main step in getting everything in order.
Buy some plastic boxes or drawers and label everything! If you keep things in plastic boxes, label each one with exactly what you want to put in it. Have different categories like a box for knitting needles, a box for spare bits of yarn, a box for embellishments and so on.
But keep the things you use a lot within easy reach. The last thing you want to do is go digging around for something you’ve been working on every day, because you tidied it away in a box somewhere! This also goes for handy things like scissors and needles.
Once all of the storage is labelled, start organising your stash into the categories. You may want to put your yarn into different colour-coded boxes, so that next time you take up a project you know exactly where to find the colours you need.
If you don’t already have one, it’s worth investing in a notice board so that when you come across ideas from magazines or online, you can pin them up rather than risk them being strewn across the room.
Enjoy your tidied-up craft space and as long as you keep on top of it, it will be a source of great joy!
